A Mechanical Clock with wooden Gears WIP

Postby jscook55 » Mon Mar 04, 2013 6:01 pm

I wrote up my progress here: http://www.jcopro.net/2013/03/04/building-a-clock-from-design-to-not-quite-working-prototype/ with several videos. Starting from scratch on a clock is an interesting experiment, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have the patience for it without a CNC machine.

It may prove that I don't have the patience with one. I'd invite you to check out the article, and if anyone has done anything similar, I'd love feedback. I already see some possible issues, so maybe there's some things I've missed.

Nice writeup! Although I havent gotten as far as you, I found this killer spreadsheet that really needs to be shared:

This makes escapement design much easier.

Thanks! Just got the gears attached to each other yesterday, so getting even closer.

Where's you find that spreadsheet? That is pretty sweet, I just drew mine out in Draftsight, but I think it will work... Maybe.

Well, I knew there had to be some sort of template out there on escapements...I think i found it on Page 10+ of a google search. I believe the designers are listed in the spreadsheet itself.

Here's another post on this with more videos and some things that I'll change on the next iteration: http://www.jcopro.net/2013/03/18/first-mechanical-clock-partially-working/
